Sloughi
Summary
The Sloughi is an ancestral sighthound from the Maghreb of North Africa — Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya — where it was used by Berber and Bedouin tribes to hunt gazelles, hares, jackals, and foxes in the desert. It is distinguished from the Saluki, with which it is frequently confused, by the absence of fringes and the smooth coat all over the body. It is a rare breed, with a deep connection to its nomadic origins, and of an extremely sensitive and loyal character.

Temperament & Personality
The Sloughi is a dog of deep and complex character: reserved and distant with strangers, but extraordinarily affectionate, loyal, and sensitive with the family. It has a long emotional memory — early trauma or unstable environments affect it in lasting ways. It is not a dog for noisy environments or very busy families. At home it is quiet and elegant; in open fields it is a hunter of exceptional speed and endurance. It responds only to positive training methods.
