Summary
The Smooth-Faced Pyrenean Sheepdog is one of two varieties of the Pyrenean Sheepdog, differing from the long-haired variety by the shorter coat on the face. Originating from the Pyrenees mountains in southern France, it is one of the smallest sheepdogs in the world relative to the working conditions it endures — easily covering more than 50 km per day at altitude. It is the smallest shepherd breed in France.

The Smooth-Faced Pyrenean Sheepdog is a dog of explosive energy, lively and notably distrustful of strangers — more so than the long-haired variety. It is extremely active, agile and resilient. It forms very intense bonds with its owner but can be difficult to handle for people without experience with herding breeds. Its reputation for independence and cunning is well deserved.
