Summary

The English Mastiff is one of the oldest and largest breeds in the world, with historical references dating back more than two thousand years. It was used by the Romans in amphitheatres, by Celtic warriors in battles, and by medieval nobles for bear and lion hunting. Temperament & Personality

The English Mastiff is the archetype of the "gentle giant". Despite its intimidating mass, it is calm, patient, and surprisingly gentle with children — although its size can be unintentionally dangerous. It is naturally protective but rarely aggressive without provocation. Its loyalty to the family is absolute and it can develop separation anxiety if left alone for too long.
