Fox Terrier (Smooth)
Summary
The Smooth Fox Terrier is one of the oldest and most elegant English terriers, developed in the 18th century as an aid in mounted fox hunts. Its function was to enter burrows to flush the fox after it had been chased by hounds. More elegant and refined than its wire-haired cousin, the Smooth Fox Terrier is often called "the gentleman of terriers" for its distinguished bearing and balanced character.

Temperament & Personality
Lively, gregarious, and with a contagious optimism, the Smooth Fox Terrier is an excellent companion dog for active families. It has the terrier instinct well present — it digs, chases, vocalizes — but can be socialized with great success. It is very attached to its owner, likes children, and has an energy that requires daily exercise. It is considerably easier to manage than its more "excitable" relatives.
