Summary
The Ariégeois is a French medium-sized scent hound originating from the department of Ariège, in the Midi-Pyrénées region of southern France. Developed through crosses between the Grand Bleu de Gascogne, the Grand Gascon Saintongeois, and local Briquet-type dogs, it specializes in hare hunting on the dry and rocky terrain of its native region. It is the lightest and finest of the "blue mottled dogs of the Midi."
