Italian Volpino
Summary
The Volpino Italiano is an ancient Spitz-type dog originating from Italy, with representations in Roman artworks from over 2,000 years ago. Its name literally means "little Italian fox," referring to its fine and expressive appearance. It was a popular dog in Italian courts during the Renaissance — Michelangelo owned one. Nearly extinct in the 20th century, it was saved by dedicated breeders.

Temperament & Personality
The Volpino Italiano is an exuberant, cheerful dog, very affectionate with the family and of a lively temperament. It is an excellent alert dog, barking to announce anything out of the ordinary. Despite its outgoing temperament, it is generally docile and easy to manage with consistent training. It needs early socialization to prevent becoming excessively vocal.
