Summary

The Volpino Italiano is an ancient Spitz-type dog originating from Italy, with representations in Roman artworks from over 2,000 years ago. Its name literally means "little Italian fox," referring to its fine and expressive appearance. It was a popular dog in Italian courts during the Renaissance — Michelangelo owned one. Nearly extinct in the 20th century, it was saved by dedicated breeders.
