Cirneco Dell'etna
Summary
The Cirneco dell'Etna is a Sicilian hunting breed of very ancient origin, adapted to the arid volcanic terrain of the slopes of Mount Etna. It is the smaller and more agile version of the Mediterranean Podenco-type dog group. It hunts rabbits through lava and volcanic rocks using smell, sight, and hearing. Sicilian coins from the 5th century BC feature representations of dogs very similar to the modern Cirneco.
