The Istrian Short-Haired Hound is one of the oldest scent hound breeds from the Balkans, with documentation dating back to the 14th century. Originating from the Istrian peninsula (today shared between Croatia and Slovenia), it is a characteristic white and orange dog, developed for hunting hare, fox, and roe deer on the karst (limestone terrain) of Istria.
