Summary

The Rastreador Brasileiro is the only Brazilian scent hound breed and one of the few originally South American breeds. Developed in the early 20th century by Oswaldo Aranha Filho, it was bred from crosses between American Coonhounds, Foxhounds, and English scent hounds, to hunt jaguars and other big cats in the Brazilian jungle. Provisionally recognized by the FCI, it faces conservation challenges.
