Summary
The Black and Tan Coonhound is an American breed developed in the Appalachians for raccoon hunting and other tree-climbing animals. Descended from the Bloodhound, the English Foxhound, and other American scent hounds, it was selected for its ability to track scents even in difficult conditions and for "treeing" — forcing the prey up trees and barking upward until the hunter arrives.
