Pont-Audemer Spaniel
Summary
The Epagneul de Pont-Audemer — nicknamed in France "le petit clown des marais" (the little clown of the marshes) — is one of the rarest hunting breeds in Europe. Originating from Normandy, it was bred in the 19th century from French water spaniels, probably with the influence of the Irish Water Spaniel and the Barbet. Nearly extinct after the two world wars, it was recovered by Norman breeders with help from the Epagneul Breton. It is considered a national treasure in France.
