Summary
The Hungarian Hound, also known as the Transylvanian Hound or Erdélyi Kopó, is an ancient breed with origins in the crossing of Magyar dogs with native scent hounds of the Carpathian basin during the Middle Ages. It existed in two varieties — long-legged (for big game) and short-legged (for small game) — although the short-legged variety is now extremely rare. Nearly extinct in the 20th century, it has been reconstituted by Hungarian breeders in recent decades.
