English Pointer
Summary
The English Pointer is considered the ultimate expression of the British pointing dog, combining elegance, power, and speed in a single animal. Developed in Great Britain from the 17th century through crosses with Greyhound, Foxhound, and Spanish pointing dogs, it is distinguished by the iconic "point" posture — muzzle projected forward, tail horizontal, and one front leg raised. It is a long-range hunting dog, ideal for open terrain, and an affable companion at home when adequately exercised.

Temperament & Personality
The English Pointer is an adaptable dog with a balanced and obedient temperament, though with an independent streak inherited from its Greyhound ancestors. At home, it is affectionate and sociable with the entire family, being generally good with children. In the field, it displays remarkable energy and determination, and may be too active for sedentary families. Working line dogs tend to be more energetic than show line dogs.
