FAQs
The amount depends on your dog's weight, age, activity level, and whether they are neutered. This tool uses the Resting Energy Requirement (RER) formula and multiplies it by an activity factor to give you a Daily Energy Requirement (DER). From there, you can estimate food portions based on the calorie density of your chosen food.
The DER formula is a scientifically validated estimate used by veterinarians as a starting point. Individual dogs may need more or fewer calories depending on metabolism, health status, and activity. Always monitor your dog's body weight and adjust portions accordingly.
Check the calorie content on your dog food packaging (usually listed as kcal per 100g or kcal per cup). Divide your dog's daily calorie need by the food's calorie density to get the daily amount in grams. Most dry foods range from 300 to 400 kcal per 100g.
